Bondai Café sits on a quiet corner in Mexico City, the kind of spot that announces itself with a wall of block letters spelling out its whole philosophy: in coffee we trust. The kitchen keeps things simple and well executed. The avocado toast comes loaded sourdough, mashed avocado, torn salmon, halved cherry tomatoes, sprouts, and a balsamic drizzle that ties the whole plate together. The pastry case is just as tempting, stacked with pie de manzana, flaky medialunas, dense brownies, and fresh cookies, all the kind of thing you order “just one” of and then go back for more.
And then there’s the gelato. Right through the interior archway, a partner gelato bar keeps a rotating case of bright, hand-churned flavors because, as the wall out front puts it, gelato is always a good idea. It’s an easy one-two: espresso first, gelato second, no real reason to choose between them.
